It is the youngest city of the province of Latina, founded on 25 april 1936. The original nucleus was destroyed by the war but it got over the destruction and it becames in ten years the second centre of the province about number of inhabitants and one of the first of Lazio. Agricultural city, centre of many industries, Aprilia has some attractives: S. Michele Arcangelo, the bronze statue of Saint; in Campoverde the tomb of General Menotti Garibaldi; the ancient defensive Tower of Padiglione.

The city of Latina has a surface of 2.250 kmq, with 33 communes and 510.000 inhabitants. The territory is flown by Tirreno Sea. The littoral develops on more than 100 km from Astura river until Garigliano mounth. The most important centres of this area are: Latina, Sabaudia, S. Felice Circeo, Terracina, Fondi, Sperlonga, Gaeta, Formia e Minturno-Scauri.
The pontine isles are divided into two groups: Ponza, Palmarola, Gavi e Zannone in North-West, Ventotene e Santo Stefano in South-East. The province of Latina is crossed by Appennini. From North to South, Lepini Mounts, Ausoni Mounts and Aurunci Mounts. The vegetation is quiet varied and the mountain are high and big. The most important cities of this area are Bassiano, Cori, Norma, Priverno, Maenza, Roccagorga, Prossedi, Roccasecca dei Volsci, Rocca Massima, Sermoneta e Sezze. Near these mounts extends the Agro Pontino. In this place, rise up the “new cities”: Latina, Sabaudia, Aprilia and Pontinia. These cities were built in fascist age, between 1932 and 1937, when there was the reclamation of pontine marsch. Near the see there is the city of Fondi, Sperlonga and Terracina. The province of Latina has an economy based on agriculture, industry, tourism and tertiary. In the south area of the city is developed the trade, instead on the coast is developed the tourist activity.

Inaugurated on 18 december 1935, Pontinia takes the name from the region it’s born. The urban centre is made of rigorous and essential architectonic characters, some important buildings are collocated around the central square: Palazzo Comunale, with writes of fascism; postal office; the cinema-theatre; the Fascio House; S. Anna church, the school; the barracks; aqueduct tower. Situated in the centre of Agro Pontino, Pontinia is based on agriculture, but it has some industrial settling and a little development of tourism.

Sabaudia was founded on 05 August 1933, and it preserves the original urbanistic and architectonic form that call it “City of Rationalism”: the Commune Square, with the civic tower of 42 mt. and the municipal House, the ex- Fascio House, the school, Annunziata Church, the hotel, the cinema and any other building of foundation. Nowadays is a modern and turistic city loved and researched from Italian and foreign people. Paola lake, or Sabaudia Lake, is surrounded by a dense vegetation, and it’s the centre of rowing training. In spite of its young age, Sabaudia preserves important proofs of past: the Sanctuary of S. Maria della Sorresca; Domiziano Palace; Locullo Font.
